We aim to help the poor in Honduras, particularly hillside farmers, by promoting sustainable development and eco-tourism that benefits local communities, the environment and the economy.

FunaVid  land and educational and research center are used, in association with CURLA (part of the National Autonomous University of Honduras), for research, teaching based on science and local knowledge, practical demonstrations, and as a base for outreach assistance. We teach Inga alley cropping to replace slash and burn farming. It will alleviate poverty, reduce erosion, and save forests as the land remains fertile so no more forest needs to be cleared to obtain fertile farmland.

We believe in a ‘White Water to Blue Water’ approach. If we stop erosion from slash and burn farming in the watersheds of the rivers (the white water), we stop this sediment from smothering the coral reef in the sea (the blue water). This will benefit eco-tourism and fishing.

An algae culture project is at an advanced planning stage, in collaboration with experts from the USA.  It will demonstrate and teach the many great benefits of algae for Honduras, including the production of clean energy, carbon sequestration, and the production of useful nutrients.
